Most people think that their only experience with robots is through science fiction movies. However, the use of robotic technology has helped to streamline processes for a variety of businesses and industries. From healthcare to manufacturing, robots – and the science behind what fuels them – have made a great contribution to society. A recently premiered exhibit at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Science Center, entitled roboworld, highlights robotic technology, intriguing and educating visitors with hands-on exhibit stations.

This 3.5 million dollar exhibit is a permanent fixture for visitors of Pittsburgh's Carnegie Science Center to explore. "roboworld™ will showcase the latest in robotics technology – much of which has been developed in this region – and help visitors understand the tremendous impact robotics has on everyday life for each and every one of us," said Ann Metzger, Co-Director of Carnegie Science Center. "For the past several years, we have been working with partners, both local and around the world, to shape and mold this exhibition into a comprehensive examination of robotics technology and the wide array of careers involved in this cutting-edge research and industry. We are excited to finally reveal the amazing and exciting exhibits and experiences that comprise the world-class, one-of-a-kind robotics exhibition that is roboworld™."

One of those partners that contributed to the development of this unique exhibit is Pittsburgh's Integrated Industrial Technologies, Inc (I²T). For nearly twenty years, I²T has offered a range of services from automation solutions to project management. One area of expertise is their Robotics division, which provides an array of robot integration services. You can see I²T's robotic software solutions in action at roboworld's Sketch Robot exhibit. Visitors create an image, and the Sketch Robot recreates your original sketch using 1,600 marbles – all in a matter of minutes. This exhibit helps visitors gain a better understanding of the precision and dexterity of robots today. This and nearly twenty more thrilling exhibits are all at your fingertips at the roboworld™ exhibit.

roboworld™ is a 6,000 square feet permanent exhibit that will not only enlighten kids and families about robotic technology, but also educate industry leaders who are searching for ways to increase productivity and accuracy within their area of expertise. For this reason, the Carnegie Science Center, I²T and ABB will present the Robotics On The Move Partnership in Productivity 2009 Tour on Monday, August 10th and Tuesday, August 11th . ABB as one of the world's most respected engineering companies and a leading provider of industrial robots has spearheaded this worthwhile tour to further the awareness of robotic technology and what it can offer to industry.
