Finally, a company has put their technology where their mouth (or wrist) is with the first market-ready watch phone. The 3G Touch Watch Phone from LG is the follow-up to an enthusiastically received prototype originally unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2009. While some prototypes never make it to market, LG was able to deliver a timepiece with telephony capabilities and a whole lot more.

With a full-touch screen interface, 3G capabilities and video calling, the 3G Touch Watch Phone from LG does just about everything you want in a conventional smart phone, with a plethora of other bells and whistles. Better yet, it's one less thing to carry in your pocket, purse or briefcase. Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company boasts of this futuristic device's many attributes: "The Watch Phone demonstrates LG's technological leadership, proving that we can bring all the components in today's most advanced mobile phones down to a very small scale."

Don't worry, this isn't a clunky watch akin to the hideous-looking calculator watches popular in the '80s. The 3G Touch Watch Phone is sleek and attractive, combining curved tempered glass with metal in an accessory that's only 13.9 mm thick. As the first touch watch phone in the world with 7.2 transfer speed on an enhanced 3G network compatibility, you can send data with speed and utilize video conferencing technology.

The 3G Touch Watch Phone is reminiscent of the spy technology that you dreamed of as a kid. You can send text messages, make calls, take photos and videos, listen to music with the built-in MP3 player, and tell time on the nearly 1.5-inch touch screen with LG's intuitive Flash Interface. The 3G Touch Watch Phone also has voice recognition capabilities that can be used with the high-end noise reduction microphone or with a Bluetooth headset. Have text messages read to you with the Text to Speech (TTS) technology, adding to the allure of this remarkable gadget.

Rumored to sell for close to $1,600 U.S., there's no doubt that this watch phone will attract attention – not so much for the technology, but because very few consumers will be able to afford one. People will definitely stare at the crazy people talking to their wrists. The 3G Touch Watch Phone from LG will be available for purchase in Europe sometime in the second half of 2009. A U.S. release date has yet to be announced. For more information, visit LG.com.
