All new parents – whether or not they actually admit to it – worry that their children might stop breathing while they sleep. As your little one lies quietly in his or her crib, this is the one time during the day that you cannot constantly watch over him or her. Tip-toeing silently into your baby's room each evening – and sometimes several times a night – becomes your nightly routine. How can you possible get the rest that you need if you are constantly worrying about your baby's wellbeing? An innovative new product by Biosentronics is just what you need to help relieve some of those fears.

The Snuza Halo is a small device that attaches to your baby's diaper and monitors your baby's movement while he or she rests. The Snuza Halo is unique, because it goes where your baby goes. Other devices that promise to monitor your baby's movement need to be placed on a flat surface under a crib mattress. This is fine if your baby always sleeps at home in his or her crib. If you are traveling, visiting a friend or use a bassinet somewhere else in your home, this could be a problem. You might own an audio and/or video baby monitor, but they can't let you know if your baby has stopped breathing. The sensor on the Snuza Halo keeps tabs on the movement of your baby's stomach as he or she breaths. When movement ceases for 15 seconds, the Snuza Halo begins to vibrate and gently wakes your baby. After 20 seconds without movement, an alarm sounds to alert you that there could be a problem.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) – also commonly known as crib death – annually claims the lives of 2,000 babies under the age of one year. While this number has dropped since 1994, when the American Academy of Pediatrics launched the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development's (NICHD) Back to Sleep campaign, even one child lost to SIDS is too many. The Back to Sleep Campaign urges parents to place their infants on their backs to sleep, not on their stomachs or sides – since those positions seemed to have resulted in more unexplained infant deaths.

This campaign has reduced the total number of SIDS related deaths by more than 50 percent in the United States, which is equivalent to saving 3,500 babies annually. However, babies sleep whenever the mood strikes, especially for the first few months. If you are like many parents who want their baby nearby during the day – or even at night – you may use a bassinet or may allow your child to sleep in a bouncy seat. The Snuza Halo attached to your baby's diaper can give you peace of mind that your baby is safely sleeping, no matter where he or she is.

The Snuza Halo is available for purchase for approximately $229.00. To find a store, visit Snuza.com.
