With the recent headlines about food safety concerns and the need for tighter FDA controls, many parents would like to make their baby's food, but they just don't have the time. The thought of dragging out the food processor, or blender, and waiting for a big pot of water to come to enough of a boil to steam food sounds cumbersome and is time-consuming. That was until the Beaba Babycook became available in the U.S.

The Beaba Babycook is a patented compact countertop steamer/blender all-in-one. The Babycook originated in France and was developed by Beaba, a company known for its innovative baby products. Parents can cook fruits, vegetables and meats while retaining their vitamins and flavors. You can even use the Beaba Babycook to defrost and warm baby's food.

After filling the reservoir with water, it takes about 15 minutes to steam something hard, like yams, and only about 5 minutes for softer foods, like pears. You pop off the lid, drain and dump the water (or save it to thin the steamed fruits, veggies or meat into a puree), and everything goes back into the blending bowl. With a twist of a knob, parents are on their way to making homemade food for their babies. Parents can save both time and money, by making their baby's food, and can control the quality of the ingredients.

Honored both in the U.S. and internationally, the Beaba Babycook takes feeding baby to a new level of convenience. Most recently, the Beaba Babycook was chosen by the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association) to be one of 10 products to receive the JPMA's 2008 Innovation Awards. Over 130 cutting edge products entered this year's competition, which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada in conjunction with the ABC Kids Expo. The Innovation Awards highlight some of the most exciting new children's' products in the marketplace today. Entries are evaluated by a selection committee of trade media representatives and industry retail buyers, and judged on their innovation, marketability, trend-setting potential, appeal and usefulness.

The Beaba Babycook is BPA (Bisphenol A) safety-tested. BPA is a chemical building block that is used primarily to make polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins and has recently come under fire. BPA has been found to disrupt the endocrine development associated with reproductive abnormalities in test on animals. It is thought that BPA can leach into food and should especially be avoided with babies and children. The Babycook includes a 2 ½ cup unbreakable Polysulfone (PSU) bowl, steamer basket made from transparent Polypropylene (PP), spatula and recipe booklet. Both the bowl and steamer basket are top-rack dishwasher safe.

The Beaba Babycook is currently available for purchase from Williams-Sonoma and giggle.com for approximately $150.00 (plus shipping and handling).
