The Global Gourmet reports that various forms of ketchup have been around for centuries. This beloved condiment originated in Indonesian and Asian cultures. Today, the tomato variety is most popular in American households, where it is found in 97% of refrigerators. According to the H.J. Heinz Company – the Pittsburgh-based makers of Heinz Ketchup – ketchup lovers have enjoyed this condiment in the same take-out packet for over 40 years. That is until now. The H.J. Heinz Company just raised the bar on food service ketchup package design with their new invention, the Heinz Dip & Squeeze.

We've all wrestled with a packet of ketchup. You may even have the stains to prove it. However, did you accept the packaging and never imagine that there was something better? For the on-the-go ketchup eater, you'll be happy to know that the days of tearing into multiple, tiny ketchup packets are over. The Heinz Dip & Squeeze's name says it all. If you're a traditionalist, you can tear it open and squeeze away. If you are more of a dunker, you can peel the packet open and dip to your heart's content. Even better is that each container contains three times more Heinz ketchup than traditional packets. Not only can you enjoy the convenience and portability of one of your favorite condiments in a less messy way, but you also get more of it in each package.

A recent press release from Heinz North America states that, "For more than a century, product and packaging innovation based on a thorough understanding of what consumers want has been a critical part of the great success of Heinz Ketchup," said William R. Johnson, H.J. Heinz Company Chairman, President and CEO. "Heinz Ketchup's Dip & Squeeze product is just the latest milestone in our long history of packaging innovation. From the first plastic ketchup bottle to Top-Down™ and Fridge Door Fit™, Heinz continues to lead the industry in ketchup packaging innovation."

You'll need to be patient in order to experience this newly designed ketchup package. The Heinz Dip & Squeeze packets won't be available in your favorite fast food restaurant until the end of 2010. Until then, Heinz Ketchup lovers – young and old – can visit Heinz Ketchup's Facebook page for the latest updates.
