Taking time to listen to the radio is a well deserved reward for enduring a hectic day. Even when you think that you can take a break from your busy schedule, there are always interruptions. Once again, you missed kicking back to your favorite public radio program. Have you ever wished that there was a way to bookmark episodes of public radio programs so that you could enjoy them later? There is actually an invention that lets you do just that with a push of a button.

The Radio Bookmark is a small device – about the size of an average automobile alarm fob – that enables you to bookmark radio programs and music that airs on participating public radio stations. The way the device works is really both simple and ingenuous. When you want to bookmark a program – or music – to which you are listening, you push a button and the device captures the day and time in its memory. You're not actually recording anything, so sound quality isn't an issue. When you want to listen to the program that you missed, just plug the Radio Bookmark into the USB port on your computer. You will have already set up your personal web page for your participating public radio station. The information stored in the memory of the Radio Bookmark matches up precisely with the station's program schedule. If you bookmarked the program half-way through, you will be able to pick up from where you left off.

The Radio Bookmark isn't just for bookmarking public radio programs. Music can also be bookmarked so that you can get information on a song later. Your personal web page will give you details about a song such as the title and the station playlist. The option to purchase the song will be available, which is another way to support your favorite public radio station. It's not a problem if you enjoy the programming from more than one public radio station, because the Radio Bookmark has two separate bookmark buttons. Programs and music from two different participating public radio stations can be bookmarked with a click of a button.

The Radio Bookmark device, from Sky Blue Technologies, is free to you as a supporter of your local, participating public radio station. If the Radio Bookmark is not yet available from your local station, you can register with Radio Bookmark, and they will let you know when it becomes available. The Radio Bookmark device is beneficial to both the listener and the radio station. While many nonprofit organizations spend excessive amounts of money to attract and keep donors – sometimes to a degree that seem frivolous – the Radio Bookmark is a very clever way to thank donors and gather critical demographic information on listening patterns and preferences. And what better way to say thank you to donors than supplying them with a handy gadget that helps make it easier to enjoy public radio programming.
