As a general rule, video games are the antithesis of the active, healthy child. An out of shape kid sprawled on the game room floor, in front of a game console really isn't every mother's dream. Whether a response to this growing inactivity problem and warnings by pediatricians – or just a way to step up the competition – video game manufacturers have been testing the waters with motion control game systems for some time. One of the latest offerings is from a company known for their popular game systems. Sony has recently announced the release date for the PlayStation Move Motion Controller and Navigation Controller to work in conjunction with the PlayStation 3 gaming system.
The PlayStation Move's precision for detecting movement is what makes it different from other motion controller gaming systems that are currently available. The player's movement is within real 3D space instead of a mere guestimate of position, so that it actually looks like you are completing the movement on the screen. The PlayStation Move system is comprised of a Motion Controller, a Navigation Controller and the PlayStation Eye Camera. Of course, put this all together with the PlayStation 3 gaming system, and you are in for some action packed fun. Both controllers are wireless and have a built–in, lithium ion rechargeable battery, using Bluetooth technology to communicate with the system.
The Motion Controller may look like a microphone with a color–changing sphere on top, yet it is so much more. The Motion Controller creates a sense of spacial awareness that translates into the world of the game. While the PlayStation Eye USB Camera tracks your movement, the PlayStation Move Motion Controller senses your literal actions. Through a vibration sensor and the color changing effects of the sphere, you are further immersed into your favorite game through touch and colorful visual cues. It's also possible to use more than one Motion Controller in games where precise movement of both arms would enhance the player experience such as a boxing game. If you want greater excitement to your game, add the PlayStation Move Navigation Controller to your wish list. The Navigation Controller may, at first glance, look like a television remote control. However, it gives you directional buttons, an analog stick and two shoulder buttons to control your in–game character.
While the PlayStation Move Motion and Navigation Controllers aren't expected to be available until September 2010, you can reserve yours at ToysRUs.com. The Motion Controller is being offered for $49.99 and the Navigation Controller for $29.99 plus shipping and handling.
