Everyone needs a little inspiration, especially if you sit in front of a computer all day. While many use music to get their creative juices flowing, standard PC speakers aren’t ordinarily of the greatest quality nor do they look like anything special. What if you could have speakers that were both aesthetically pleasing as well as up to the quality standards of any audiophile? You can have these appealing features with Harman Kardon’s GLA-55 Two-Piece Speaker System. The GLA-55 speakers may look like elegantly formed chunks of ice but don’t start assembling your cocktail mixers. These unusually attractive speakers - sporting custom chrome tubing and designed with bass-reflex enclosures – can be used with your PC, iPod or just about any audio device that you can plug into the stereo mini jack connection. The word “System” in their name should give you a hint that you’re looking at something more than just a couple of sound producing boxes.

While the GLA-55 Two-Piece Speaker System’s package is beautiful, the features that grant them membership into the hide-end speaker category - woofers and tweeters - perform on levels well beyond their small size. The Atlas AL woofers peak-to-peak excursion of almost an inch means that these little gems can push out an impressive deep, bass sound. In addition, the woofers boast of sound quality capabilities that are equal to woofers six times their size. The CMMD (Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm) Lite tweeters mimic the attributes of larger, high-end home theater and loudspeaker systems. The technology behind the digital amplification and sound processing maintains the integrity of the signal from the computer – or other device – so that you hear strong, clear sound. This is done via a chrome-plated, solid-copper bus. Another noteworthy feature of the GLA-55 Speaker System is the Slipstream port. The Slipstream port - as opposed to a more traditional cylindrical port – has a cutting edge design that offers greater surface area. Basically, the Slipstream port channels the pressure produced by the woofers creating a tighter sound. When all is said and done, ease of use is always a plus which makes touch sensitive controls for volume especially appealing. Also convenient is how one can check the power or mute status with the LED on the front of each speaker.

The Harman Kardon GLA-55 Two-Piece Speaker System is available for purchase from Harman Audio for $999.95.
