According to Citi analyst Richard Gardner, the
iPad 3 will be released sometime in February of next year and sport a screen
with double the resolution. This rumored February release date would make for
an early unveiling, albeit one which may be necessary due to the onslaught of
competition from Android rivals. Although Apple sells about 70% of all tablets,
rivals are coming out with products that match the iPad in terms of hardware
and software. Furthermore, the Kindle Fire is taking away at least some portion
of potential iPad buyers. Regardless, the iPad may very well become what the
iPod was, a dominant market leader despite the competition’s best attempts to
oust Apple from its thrown. Think of the upcoming iPad 3 as Apple’s way of
something, “we’re still the top dog and will be for a long time.” Here are some
potential iPad 3 features which may help Apple solidify its role as the market
leader…
Retina Display
The current iPad has 132 pixels per inch, but the
retina display on the iPhone 4S has 326 pixels per inch. Of all the iPad 3
rumors out there, a retina display has the highest chance of coming to
fruition. A retina display on the iPad 3
would be the equivalent of an HD display in which your games and movies pop out
of the screen.
Siri
As mentioned in Why iPad 3 Will Have Siri, Siri will
eventually be added to the iPad. If not the iPad 3, it will be added to iPad 4
because a Siri enabled computer represents Steve Jobs’s dream of the most user
friendly computer, one without a
keyboard, mouse, or even the need to look at a screen.
4G LTE
Although Apple did not bother to make a 4G
compatible phone, it may opt to make a 4G compatible tablet to compete with its
4G enabled competitors. A 4G tablet will allow you to browse the internet
faster, letting you get more things done. Buffering videos would be a thing of
the past.
Better Camera
iPad users know that their camera is pointless for
taking pictures due to its inferior quality. Even if Apple upgraded its camera,
doesn’t mean that many people would use it due to iPad’s large size.
Regardless, a camera upgrade would make the iPad more “complete.”
Super Fast Processor
The iPad 2 has a dual-core A5 chipset and an A6
chipset upgrade would make the iPad even more nimble.
Independence
People are already replacing laptop and PC
purchases with iPad purchases. However, the iPad still requires you to sync to
an iTunes account on another computer. Wireless activation would help progress
the iPad from a computer accessory to a standalone computer.
The recently released iPhone 4S proved that rumors
and reality are far from the same thing. At the same time, the iPad and iPhone
serve completely different markets. Unlike the iPhone, people are seeing the
iPad as a laptop and PC replacement, a reputation which it can only fulfill by
making the iPad more and more computer like.
